With four players in with a chance of winning The Race to Dubai, here’s what they need to do to finish European Number One.
Rory McIlroy – €2,538,449: Will take the crown regardless of how he plays if Westwood is outside the top seven, Kaymer the top four and Fisher the top two. McIlroy has one win, in the Dubai Desert Classic and a further 12 top tens, including three runners-up finishes this season.
Lee Westwood – €2,410,277: Cannot be caught if he wins. If he is second he will be champion if McIlroy is not first or tied second and Kaymer does not win. Needs to earn €128,173 more than McIlroy so needs at least top seven finish. Westwood has one win, in the Portugal Masters, and a further 11 top tens, including second in the Open de France ALSTOM and joint third in both The Open and US PGA Championship.
Martin Kaymer – €2,332,544: Cannot be caught if he wins. If he is second he will be champion if McIlroy and Westwood are not first or tied second and Fisher does not win. Needs to earn €205,905 more than McIlroy so minimum requirement is a top four. Kaymer has two wins, back-to-back successes in the Open de France ALSTOM and Barclays Scottish Open, and five other top tens.
Fisher – €2,105,046: Has to finish first or second just to have a chance of making up the €433,403 he trails McIlroy. Even if he wins he will still be denied if McIlroy or Westwood finish second. Fisher has one win, in the Volvo World Match Play Championship and four other top tens, including runner-up in the BMW PGA Championship. In terms of a place in the top 15 and therefore eligible for The Race to Dubai Bonus Pool, every player in the field still has a chance of getting an end of year bonus.
Jamie Donaldson, 60th on The Race to Dubai, could go as high as 11th with victory in the Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World.
