Lee Westwood, disappointed to have lost the position at the top of the leader board, is ready to battle for victory at the Earth course in hope of winning both The Race to Dubai and the Dubai World Championship.

The last few weeks have seen an exciting rivalry between Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, and Englishman Westwood, who have are in neck to neck contention for the top spot.

This weekend, 20-year-old McIlroy came out on top, pushing Westwood to second spot heading in to the Dubai World Championship, in an effort to become the second youngest European Number One.

Westwood said: “Obviously I am looking forward to the week. If I win the Dubai World Championship, I win The Race to Dubai, simple as that. That’s what I set out to do at the start of the last few weeks.”

“Last week was just a bit of an off week – nothing really went for me and I couldn’t get anything going.  I know nothing about the Earth course. It will be a new experience for everybody so we will all be in the same boat.”

With the competition still largely in contention Westwood and McIlory will face tough competition from Germany’s Martin Kaymer and Englishman Ross Fisher. Beginning tomorrow, the inaugural Dubai World Championship will no doubt provide one of the most gripping season finales in golf history.
