The European Tour’s International Schedule has Lived up to its Name, Having Stopped at 12 Destinations Across the Globe over the Past Five Months
Heralding a new era in world golf, Robert Karlsson’s tee off at the HSBC Champions last November kicked off The Race, The European Tour’s season-long competition. After traversing the globe for the past five months, The Race to Dubai hit European soil for the first time at the Madeira Islands Open BPI-Portugal, the first in a three-week run of tournaments across the continent, before heading back to the USA for the season’s first Major Championship-The Masters at Augusta National in April.
Camilo Villegas, honoured last week by the Columbian President Álvaro Uribe, is one of the leading PGA players who have joined The European Tour this season. Weighing in on The Race to Dubai, the World Number Seven, said:
“I’ve always wanted to play around the world. I’ve got global sponsors, and playing in a truly international competition like The Race to Dubai allows me to represent my sponsors as I play all over the world.”
As The Race towards the summer months heats up, the pursuit of that US $10 million will keep gathering pace, undoubtedly thrilling golf fans from around the world along the way.
