The Icon’s Role in The European Tour and the Dubai World Championship

Born in Jersey, England in 1870, Harry Vardon is an iconic figure widely known as the first ever touring professional. Vardon holds a record-breaking six Open victories, was the first British golfer to win the US Open and is without a doubt one of the key figures in the history of golf.

Since 1939, the Harry Vardon Trophy has been awarded annually to the winner of The European Tour Order of Merit. This iconic trophy will continue to be awarded each year to the winner of The Race to Dubai and represents the central theme from which the new identity of The European Tour was derived.

The iconic Harry Vardon silhouette, clearly visible in the new European Tour logo, is also incorporated into the logos of The Race to Dubai, the Dubai World Championship, The European Open and the South African Open Championship. Harry Vardon’s presence in these identities acknowledges the importance placed on respect for the tradition of the game, whilst recognising the modern evolution required for a global future.
