SNAG (Starting New At Golf), the golf-style game for newcomers to the sport, has captured the imagination of budding young golfers at the Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World.
SNAG has all the basic elements of golf, but uses modified equipment and rules to make the learning experience easier and more fun.
Based in the Championship Village, the heart of all the entertainment offering at the Dubai World Championship, the SNAG area has been a hive of activity with hundreds of children keen to get their hands on a club and try their hand at the game. With oversized clubs and soft, larger balls, SNAG is a fun and interactive way to introduce children to the game of golf.
Shivas Nath, evolution Golf, the company involved in bringing SNAG to the UAE, said:
“We’ve seen a fantastic response to the SNAG area at the Dubai World Championship with hundreds of children of all ages coming through and enjoying SNAG over the last two days …. we have barely had time to sit down!
“The oversized club – which is actually the exact same weight as a normal golf club – and the large ball means children don’t struggle to make club and ball contact. The ball is also soft, like a tennis ball, making the SNAG area a safe environment for the kids to learn in too.”
Yesterday saw children take part in a competition held for the keen SNAG-ers at the Dubai World Championship. A low-scoring game, the children hit balls off a tee at a bull’s eye-style target.
“We’ve seen some promising talents come through over the past few days, that’s for sure,” added Nath.
“SNAG has been a tremendous success and hugely popular with the youngsters. We hope to have inspired some young golfers to take up the sport more regularly.”
For those keen to try out other sports at the Dubai World Championship, the EA Sports tent also has plenty on offer and has been pulling in the crowds. Along with games such as Grand Slam Tennis on the Nintendo Wii, EA Sports Active is also offering everything from dance to boxing to bicep curls – also on the WIi – and the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 on the PlayStation 3.
Opening from 9:30am daily, there is something for everyone at the Championship Village this weekend.
