Sweden’s Christian Nilsson had the honour at precisely 7.40am (UAE time) of striking the first ball in the 2011 Dubai World Championship presented by DP World at the Earth course, Jumeirah Golf Estates this morning.

Nilsson, the 60th ranked player in The Race to Dubai standings, was in the first two-ball of the day alongside Scotland’s Scott Jamieson and was cheered on by a group of colourful Swedish supporters who were among some of the first spectators to take advantage of complimentary entry to the $7.5 million finale to The European Tour season.

In total, 58 players will take to the Greg Norman-designed Earth course with the world’s top two players – Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy – the final two-ball to tee off at 12.30pm. Spectators can still register for their complimentary passes on this website.
