Rory McIlroy is looking forward to taking on the Earth course this weekend and believes that it will suit his natural game.
Having played a practice round on the Greg Norman designed course, the young Ulsterman is confident going into today’s opening round.
McIlroy said: “I think it sets up great for me. It’s long. It’s wide off the fairway; I can take the driver out and give it a rip.”
The 20-year-old believes that iron play will be the key to scoring well on the course designed specifically for this tournament, something that should play into his hands
“I hit a lot of 5‑, 6‑, 7‑irons into the greens yesterday, which I think is the strongest part of my game,” he said. “Especially last week, my iron play was fantastic.”
With four players still in with a chance of winning The Race to Dubai, the last three holes are sure to see some drama and McIlroy thinks the island green at the 17th could get its fair share.
“I’m sure if you are standing there with a one-shot lead on Sunday, it (the green) will look a lot smaller than it is.”
