Rory McIlroy is back into second place in The Race to Dubai with just one more tournament to go before the season finale at the Dubai World Championship.

The Ulsterman cut Lee Westwood’s lead to under $78,000 after the pair finished fourth and eighth respectively at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

The frontrunners now head to the Hong Kong Open where the first prize is around $415,000. This means The Race to Dubai cannot be decided until the Dubai World Championship starting on Thursday week at Jumeirah Golf Estates where the winner will earn $1,250,000.

“I’m making ground all the time,” said McIlroy.

“I made up ground a little bit last week at the Match Play and I’ll be closer than I was at the start of the week, which is a good thing.”
