Three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington has admitted he faces an uphill task if he is become the inaugural Race to Dubai champion.
The Irishman, who is competing in this week’s Singapore Open, is currently 16th in The Race to Dubai rankings with earnings of €1,056,462 and admits he may need to win his three remaining events, including the Dubai World Championship, if he is to be crowned The European Tour’s top golfer at the end of the season.
“I am probably going to have to win all three if I am to win The Race to Dubai title,” he said.
“I’m always trying to win every week out here, but these next three events I am playing take on that extra importance.
Harrington is currently €1,185,478 behind Race leader Lee Westwood, with Germany’s Martin Kaymer now in second place after finishing joint runner-up last week in Spain.
The Dubliner heads next week to Shanghai for the WGC-HSBC Champions event before joining the leading 60 money earners for the season finale Dubai World Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 19-22.
“I am going to have to expect those ahead of me to play well over the next few weeks, as we saw last week with Martin Kaymer, because he looked every bit the winner walking onto the 18th green before Michael (Jonzon) holed that putt.
“Martin’s second on the money list behind Lee, and they are two players very much in form.
“So that’s why I’m probably going to have to capture all three or go very close to winning the three.”
