Sergio Garcia believes it will take a course record on the final day of the Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World to give him an outside chance of victory.

The Spaniard says it is not beyond him to match Robert Allenby’s first round 7-under, but admits Greg Norman’s Earth course is getting tougher with each round.

“It’s possible.  You have to play really well.  The pins are quite tough.  It’s not easy to hit it close to some of these pins.  If you roll your putter amazing and you make a lot of putts, you can shoot that kind of score.

“The course is slowly playing a little bit tougher with this breeze and the greens are firming up a little bit and getting a little quicker.”

Garcia shot a third round 69 to be 9-under par for the Championship, but knows it will be tough to chase down frontrunner Lee Westwood who tops the leaderboard on 15-under.

“I would have loved to probably shot three shots better. He’s got a lot of confidence.  He’s playing nicely and he’s doing everything well … you can definitely see that.”
