Crowds flock to DWC

Golf fans flocked to the Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World today to watch the world’s leading golfers go head-to-head with more than 15,000 pouring through the gates of Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Stunning weather attracted local and international spectators in their droves to the grand finale of The Race to Dubai as fans strolled around the spectacular new Greg Norman-designed Earth course.
A tremendous buzz and excitement has surrounded day two of the tournament from the first tee-off with the number of families and youngsters enjoying the unique atmosphere noticeable in the crowds.
The ‘Championship Village’ came alive again with plenty of activities from free golf lessons to fitness tests through to golf fans and families lounging around on bean bags enjoying the food and beverage outlets while soaking up the action on the big screen.
Saeed Harib, Managing Director of Nakheel Leisure, the company developing Jumeirah Golf Estates, said:
“The Dubai World Championship promised to bring in a new era of golf to the region and with the huge interest being shown by fans of all ages, we believe the event is truly living up to expectations. Part of the objective has been to take the game of golf to new audiences and it is pleasing to see so many young faces in the crowds.
“We are proud to see the overall excitement and family atmosphere that has been generated in the opening days and it’s only going to get better as the tournament builds up to the final day on Sunday.”
Youngsters have been kept busy through a range of entertainment from Nintendo Wii through to the popular SNAG (Starting New At Golf) game, the golf-style game for newcomers to the sport.
Mark Fryer, who is attending the event with his two sons, said:
“It’s been a fantastic day out, very good indeed. The course is lovely. We’ve sat at a few holes now to watch the golf. You can just turn up at the holes and watch the players in a relaxed atmosphere.
“It’s a brilliant day out for the family, and great that it’s all free. We registered for our tickets online – it was really easy and we had no problems at all.”
