World Number Two Rory McIlroy will continue his quest to overhaul Luke Donald at the top of The Race to Dubai today as the second round of the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World gets underway at the Earth course, Jumeirah Golf Estates.

While the lone figure of Simon Dyson took to the course just after 7.30am this morning, McIlroy could enjoy a lie in after a superb opening round 66 (-6). The US Open Champion will get his second round underway at 12.30pm alongside Spain’s Sergio Garcia – arguably the two-ball of the day and one that is certain to attract the biggest gallery.

Tournament leader Peter Hanson (-8) will partner former Open Champion Paul Lawrie at 12.40pm, while Donald – who needs to finish in the top nine to become the first player in history to top the money lists in both Europe and the USA in the same season – is playing with another former Claret Jug holder Louis Oosthuizen after both carded opening round scores of even par 72.

With perfect playing conditions, Dubai’s ideal winter climate and free entry to the public, a huge crowd is expected to follow the play at the grand finale to The European Tour season.
