A Few Select Stars Get a Sneak Peak at the Exciting New Course that will Host the Inaugural Dubai World Championship this November
Earth by Greg Norman—the spectacular golf course at Jumeirah Golf Estates that will host the inaugural Dubai World Championship in November 2009—has had its first taste of world-class golf. At the beginning of this year, global stars Sergio Garcia, Robert Karlsson, Justin Rose, Darren Clarke and Martin Kaymer, together with Khalid Yousuf, three-time UAE champion and one of the emirate’s most talented young golfers, gathered to play the last four holes of Earth.
Hitting balls for an hour in the glorious sunshine, the players were the first to attempt what Norman has described as “the most challenging mile in golf.”
Although ready for play, Earth will not be played again until the Dubai World Championship. Fully grassed in April 2008, Earth has been given an unprecedented two full seasons to mature before The Championship. Until then, intensive maintenance will ensure that the links have the look and feel of an established course, but with conditions more pristine than most players will have experienced in their careers.
